featured some offensive explosions
Week 0 of the 2010 season is now in the
books and there were some impression
displays of offense in the first weekend
of games. Here are just some of the
games where the winners (and sometimes
losers too) scored 40 or more points—
Huffman Hargrave 63, Hardin-Jefferson
0
Hargrave combined for 623 yards of total
offense to surprise the Hawks. Senior
Cole DeBerry completed 23 of 35 passes
for 348 yards and four TDs and also
rushed for two more scores.
Montgomery 56, Crosby 30
Montgomery senior running back Leroy
Dobbins rushed for 232 yards on 18
carries and scored a career-high five
touchdowns at Crosby on Friday night.
Crosby quarterback Dominic Merka rushed
for 131 yards with three touchdowns and
went 10-for-23 passing for 102 yards
with an interception.
Lumberton 56, Jasper 35
Lumberton rebounded from an early 14-0
deficit to win going away against Jasper
on Friday night at Raider Stadium in
Lumberton. Ryan Asher rushed for 169
yards and four touchdowns.
Willis 50, Davis 0
Scoring on their first five possessions,
the Willis Wildkats jumped to a 43-0
halftime lead over their HISD opponent
at Berton Yates Stadium on Friday. The
Willis defense held the visiting
Panthers to minus-14 total yards, and
also logged a safety.
Bridge City 50, Shepherd 0
Bridge City junior quarterback Matt
Menard’s first two passes went for
touchdowns and the Cardinals opened up a
41-0 lead at the half to coast to
victory on Friday night at Larry Ward
Stadium.
Clear Creek 49, Pasadena Memorial 14
C.J. McElroy, son of former Astros'
pitcher Chuck McElroy, accounted for
five touchdowns for the Wildcats on
Saturday in League City. The senior flex
back rushed for 149 yards and two
touchdowns, caught four passes for 85
yards and a touchdown, threw a pass for
a 74-yard score and even returned a
kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown. Clear
amassed 581 yards of total offense.
Friendswood 49, Angleton 28
In a game between two of Class 4A’s
preseason favorites, Friendswood scored
35 first-quarter points and held the
Wildcats in check the rest of the way in
a 49-28 victory, despite a huge game
from Angleton senior quarterback Quandre
Diggs, at Wildcat Stadium on Friday
night.
Spring 48, Conroe 12
Spring scored on six of their seven
possessions in their victory over Conroe
Friday night at Moorhead Stadium, the
debut for new head coach Sam Parker.
Greg Livingston ran for three touchdowns
and passed for two more to lead Spring.
Texarkana Texas 48, Vidor 41
It took two overtime possessions, but
Texas High outlasted Vidor in this Class
4A shootout on Friday night at Lobo
Stadium in Longview. Even in defeat,
Vidor managed to produce two 100-yard
rushers in the game, Kody Sutton (266
yards) and Brentyn Clark (140 yards).
Tomball 45, Morton Ranch 16
Tomball took advantage of Morton Ranch
miscues to score 21 points in five
minutes in the third quarter to put the
game out of reach at 42-3. Quarterback
Justin Dvorak finished the game with 232
yards of total offense and three
touchdowns for the Cougars, who totaled
407 yards on offense.
Katy 44, North Shore 6
Katy overcame a shaky start to win in a
blowout. The Tigers wore down the
Mustang defense with a bruising running
game, while their defense held North
Shore to 186 total yards.
The Woodlands 44, Monterrey Prepa Tec

The Woodlands Highlanders took control
early and cruised to an easy victory
over the 11-time Mexican national
champions. Quarterback Joseph Schneider
completed 17 of 25 passes for 263 yards
and four touchdowns. Kicker Ben Pruitt
added three field goals.
Hightower 44, Eisenhower 39
The Hurricanes scored two touchdowns in
the final 8:11 to erase a ten-point
deficit and deliver a victory in Barry
Abercrombie's coaching debut on
Saturday. Hightower junior quarterback
Bralon Addison (8-for-12) passed for 195
yards and three touchdowns. Eisenhower
quarterback James Jones accounted for
329 yards of offense, rushing for 187
yards and 5 touchdowns and passing for
142 yards.
Alief Taylor 43, Dobie 13
Leading 9-6 when the second quarter
began, Alief Taylor exploded with four
second-quarter touchdowns, as the Lions
spoiled Jim Phillips’ debut at Dobie on
Friday night.
Manvel 43, Willowridge 19
Manvel took advantage of Willowridge
turnovers and scored 20 points in the
final 5:38 of the second quarter on the
way to a 43-19 victory on Friday night
at Alvin Memorial Stadium. Trevion
Alexander and Richard Rose each rushed
for two touchdowns in the win. For
Willowridge, Chris Heartfield threw two
TD passes and rushed for another.
Strake Jesuit 42, St. Thomas 6
Strake won for the thirteenth
consecutive time over private school
rival St. Thomas at Crusader Stadium on
Friday night. Senior quarterback Graham
Chapman threw for three touchdowns and
rushed for two more. Junior Jordan
Underwood ran for 123 yards and one
score and senior receiver Clay Martin
also caught five passes for 123 yards
with three touchdowns.
Foster 42, El Paso Hanks 20
Class 4A Foster rushed for 458 yards and
posted 577 yards total offense against a
Class 5A opponent on Saturday afternoon
at the Dave Campbell's Texas Football
Classic at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
Falcon quarterback Luke Tomas rushed for
153 yards on 13 carries and threw for
119 more and two touchdowns and was
named the game’s most valuable player.
Cinco Ranch 42, Klein Forest 21
Cinco Ranch scored 21 unanswered points
after halftime to break a 21-21 tie,
after Klein Forest lost highly-recruited
junior quarterback Matt Davis for the
season with a torn anterior cruciate
ligament, on Thursday night at Rhodes
Stadium in Katy. Cougar sophomore Jamel
James (20 carries, 144 yards) and senior
K.C. Nlemchi (14 carries, 97 yards)
combined for 241 rushing yards and four
touchdowns.
Klein 41, Aldine 12
Klein won it's first game with a new
offense under new head coach Shane
Hallmark, who coached Hightower to the
Class 5A Division I state championship
game in 2008. Utah commit Eric Rowe
returned the opening kickoff for a
touchdown, running back Keshawn Hill
rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns
and quarterback Mike Edel completed 8 of
15 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown.
West Orange-Stark 40, Nederland 19
Class 3A WO-S emphatically rolled past
Class 4A Nederland in Friday night’s
season opener at Bulldog Stadium in
Nederland.
Clear Springs 40, Dawson 23
Clear Springs took a 27-15 lead at
halftime and then thwarted second-half
comeback attempts by Dawson to collect
the win on Thursday night at CCISD
Memorial Stadium in League City.
